Frinton Literary Festival

Frinton Literary Festival is one of Essex’s best-kept secrets, but we need your help to change that.

The festival has been running for over two decades and, in that time, has seen authors including Mark Billingham, Lynda la Plante, Paula Hawkins, Anthony Horowitz and Anne Glenconner, bring readers together to learn more about the craft of writing, the publishing process and, for some, what happens when global fame resets your life overnight.

This year’s festival will take place between Wednesday 25th and Sunday 29th October, and will see local talent in the spotlight as well as bringing bestselling authors to the seaside for the 21st year since launch.

The full line-up for Frinton Literary Festival 2023 includes:

  • Wednesday 25th October 2023 – Spoken Word Night, Walton & Frinton Yacht Club, 6:30pm for a 7pm start, free admission. If you’re interested in performing, please see our Spoken Word Night page for more details.

  • Thursday 26 th October 2023 – Crime & Wine with Mick Herron, McGrigor Hall, 7:30pm, £15 (includes a glass of wine or a soft drink). The internationally bestselling author, whose Slough House novels have been adapted as the stunning Slow Horses TV series starring Gary Oldman, will discuss all his work including this year’s brilliant The Secret Hours.

  • Friday 27th October 2023 – An Evening with Arthur Parkinson (and his hens), McGrigor Hall, 7:30pm, £13. Chicken Boy: My Life with Hens, The Flower Yard and the brand-new Planting a Paradise feature a unique approach to the natural world. Immediately recognisable from his appearances on Gardeners World, podcasts and beautiful Instagram posts, Arthur hopes, besides his illustrated talk, to bring some of his feathered friends to Frinton.

  • Saturday 28th October 2023 – The Philomena Dwyer Literary Lunch with Miriam Margolyes, Frinton on Sea Lawn Tennis Club, 12:15pm for 1pm start, £40 (includes seated two-course lunch with coffee/tea). The irrepressible actress cemented her reputation as a national treasure with the publication of her smash hit memoir This Much is True. This autumn sees her launching Oh Miriam!, telling more tales from her extraordinary life.

  • Sunday 29th October 2023 – How to Write a Bestseller with Suzy K. Quinn, Walton & Frinton Yacht Club, 11am, £10. Maybe you can write. But can you write a bestseller? Join an author who has sold over 1 million books herself to learn just how to do that.

  • Sunday 29th October 2023 – Afternoon Tea with Adele Parks, Frinton Golf Club, 2:15pm for 3pm start, £35 (includes seated full afternoon tea – with a glass of Prosecco!) Globally bestselling author Adele’s latest novels are One Last Secret and this summer’s Just Between Us, an explosive thriller that examines what it is to be a family, and the dangerous lengths that people will go to for those they love. She will share with us her influences, and stories from her writing life.

  • SPECIAL CHILDRENS’ EVENT - In association with local schools, FLF will host an event for families with younger readers featuring storytelling, activities, music and fun. Special guest author Andy Riley will teach everyone how to cartoon and tell their own stories, inspired by his hilarious series King Flashypants and Action Dude.

Thank you for your support over the past 20 years - we hope to see you all in October for another fantastic festival.
